Grand Cherokee, Cherokee & Durango TBM location

Jeep's SUVs and the Durango all carry the Uconnect Telematics Box Module, but it moves between the glovebox, the kick panel, and the console depending on the model and year. Here's where it is and what to do with it.
Short answer
Grand Cherokee WK2 2014–2017 (RA3/RA4): there is no separate telematics box — the cellular modem is inside the radio head unit behind the center screen. WK2 2018–2021: behind or above the glovebox, passenger side. Grand Cherokee WL and L (2021+): below and behind the glovebox, after removing the floor air duct. Cherokee KL 2018–2023: passenger side under the dash, behind the kick panel. Durango (2014–2024): behind the glovebox on 2018+, inside the radio on 8.4-equipped 2014–2017 builds. Where there is a box, disconnect the purple and pink cellular connectors, or remove the box and jumper the GPS and satellite cables to the radio.

2014–2017 WK2: there is no box to find
This is the single most common dead end on a WK2. Owners pull the glovebox, pull the trim behind it, find nothing, and conclude the information online is wrong. It isn't wrong — it is written for a different generation.
On a 2014–2017 Grand Cherokee with the 8.4A (RA3) or 8.4AN (RA4) radio, FCA's service information states that the Wi-Fi antenna and the embedded cellular connection are “internal and integral to the Radio Receiver Module” — the head unit behind the center infotainment screen. The modem is a Sierra Wireless AirPrime card on a Qualcomm 3G baseband, mounted inside the radio's die-cast case. The separate telematics box on a bracket, which every removal video shows, arrives with Uconnect 4 in model year 2018. The only thing in the glovebox area on an 8.4 car is a small Bluetooth/Wi-Fi antenna puck, which carries no cellular signal.
Two further points matter if you have navigation and want to keep it. First, the same service information describes the navigation module — GPS receiver, electronic gyroscope, microcontroller and map flash memory — as a separate assembly that is also internal to the radio. The cellular card and the navigation module are different subassemblies in the same box, which is exactly why the telematics can go while navigation stays. Second, the embedded modem on these years is 3G CDMA on Sprint, a network T-Mobile finished shutting down on 31 March 2022. On a 2014–2017 vehicle that was never converted, the modem has had no carrier to register with for years.
The cleanest fix on these model years is software, not surgery: there is no Secure Gateway Module before 2018, so AlfaOBD writes to the modules directly over OBD-II. Set Cell Present and WiFi Present to No, leave GPS Present set to Yes, and the dash never comes apart. If you want the antenna disconnected as well, the cellular coax at the back of the radio is the bordeaux / claret violet lead (FAKRA code D); leave the light blue (GPS) and brown (satellite radio) leads plugged in.
The connectors
- Purple and pink: the two cellular antennas (FAKRA codes D and H). These are what you disconnect and leave unconnected.
- Light blue: GPS (code C). Passes through the module to the radio.
- Brown: satellite radio (code F). Also passes through to the radio.
Your options
- Unplug the purple and pink cellular connectors. Fast and reversible. Navigation and SiriusXM keep working. The box stays powered, so treat this as a first step.
- Remove the module completely. This is what we recommend. Bridge the light blue and brown cables straight to the radio with two FAKRA female-to-female jumpers (under $15 a pair), unplug the main harness, and unbolt the box.
- Disable it in software with AlfaOBD. Works directly on 2017 and older. 2018+ Jeeps have a Security Gateway that needs a bypass first.
Before you start
Disconnect the negative battery terminal (10 mm) and wait five minutes. The module often sits near the passenger airbag. Photograph every connector and clip before you remove anything.

+Where is the TBM on a 2014–2017 Grand Cherokee (WK2)?
There isn't one. On the RA3 and RA4 radios the cellular modem is internal to the radio head unit behind the center screen — FCA's service information calls it "internal and integral to the Radio Receiver Module." Nothing sits behind the glovebox. The separate TBM on a bracket arrives with Uconnect 4 in 2018.
+I stripped the glovebox on my WK2 and found no module. Why?
Because on a 2014–2017 build there is nothing there. Every removal video showing a box behind or above the glovebox is a 2018-or-newer vehicle. On yours the modem is inside the radio, which is why owners conclude it must be behind the center screen — that conclusion is correct.
+Where is the TBM on a 2018–2021 Grand Cherokee (WK2)?
Passenger side, behind or above the glovebox, on a bracket. A second LTE antenna sits in the instrument panel behind the radio. Glovebox removal is screws plus clips.
+Is there a fuse I can pull instead?
Not a clean one. Stellantis doesn't give most vehicles a standalone TBM fuse; it shares circuits with the radio or airbag systems. Work at the module instead.
+Will I lose navigation or SiriusXM?
On vehicles with a separate TBM, only if you remove the box without patching the light blue (GPS) and brown (satellite radio) cables back to the radio with FAKRA female-to-female jumpers. On 2014–2017 WK2s the navigation module — GPS receiver, gyroscope and map memory — is a different subassembly from the cellular card, so killing cellular leaves navigation intact.
