Disabling telematics on a Jeep Wrangler JL
Updated September 2026
Every 2018+ Wrangler with Uconnect has a Telematics Box Module that connects to Stellantis over cellular. It's easier to reach on the JL than on most vehicles, but there's no simple fuse to pull. Here's where it is and what to do.
Short answer
On a 2018+ Wrangler JL (and 2020+ Gladiator JT), the Telematics Box Module sits under the driver’s side lower dash, left of the steering column, about level with your left shin. Pop off the lower dash panel under the steering wheel (2–3 clips) and you’ll see a black box with colored antenna connectors. There’s no dedicated TBM fuse on the JL, so the fix happens at the module.
Finding the TBM
- Disconnect the negative battery terminal (10 mm) and wait five minutes.
- Remove the lower dash panel under the steering wheel. It’s held by 2–3 clips.
- Find the black box with the screw-on antenna connectors. The purple and pink ones are the two cellular antennas (Mopar’s cellular antenna 1 and 2, FAKRA codes D and H) that send data out. The purple is sometimes described as claret violet. The light blue (GPS, code C) and brown (satellite radio, code F) ones are feeds that continue on to the radio.
- Photograph everything before you unplug anything.
Why there’s no fuse to pull
No standalone TBM fuse has been confirmed on the JL. Across 2018+ Stellantis vehicles, the TBM generally shares circuits with the radio, display, or airbag systems, so pulling fuses is a good way to lose your screen or set an airbag code without actually stopping the modem.
Your three options
- Unplug the violet/purple/pink cellular connectors. The modem loses its data link, while navigation and SiriusXM keep working. Reversible in seconds, but the box stays powered.
- Remove the TBM completely. This is what we recommend. The brown (SiriusXM) and light blue (GPS) feeds run through it, so patch those two back to the radio with FAKRA female-to-female jumpers and leave the cellular cables disconnected.
- Disable it with AlfaOBD. Requires a Security Gateway bypass on 2018+ Jeeps. On 2022+ vehicles, check your model’s forum before buying tools, since secure on-board communication can add steps.
Older Wrangler JK (2007–2018)
| Jeep | TBM location | Fuse |
|---|---|---|
| Wrangler JL 2018+ | Driver's side lower dash, left of the steering column | No dedicated TBM fuse confirmed |
| Gladiator JT 2020+ | Same as JL | Same as JL |
| Wrangler JK 2007–2018 with Uconnect 8.4 | Behind the passenger kick panel (2 screws plus clips) | Fuse #27 in the underhood box; confirm in your owner's manual |
JKs built for 2017 and earlier don’t have the Security Gateway, so AlfaOBD can change settings directly through the OBD-II port.
What you lose, and what keeps working
- Lost: SOS and crash calling, Uconnect app remote start, lock, and vehicle locate, over-the-air updates, and the Wi-Fi hotspot
- Still works: radio, Bluetooth, CarPlay and Android Auto, backup camera, off-road pages, and all safety systems

Common questions
+Is there a telematics fuse on a Jeep Wrangler JL?
No dedicated TBM fuse has been confirmed on the JL. Use the antenna disconnect, physical removal, or AlfaOBD with a gateway bypass instead.
+Is the Gladiator JT the same as the Wrangler JL?
Yes. The 2020+ Gladiator uses the same TBM location under the driver's side lower dash, left of the steering column, and the same disable options.
+Can I use AlfaOBD on my JL?
Yes, but 2018 and newer Jeeps have a Security Gateway Module that blocks aftermarket tools from changing settings, so you need a gateway bypass first. 2022+ vehicles with secure on-board communication may need extra steps.
+Will I lose navigation or SiriusXM?
Not if you unplug just the purple/violet cellular connector, or use FAKRA jumper cables to patch the brown and blue feeds back to the radio when you remove the module.
